Fortunately, their 2018 third-round pick wide receiver, Michael Gallup, is a star in the making. In the Cowboys’ Week 7 matchup against Washington, Gallup gave us a glimpse of what he could be, as he scored his first NFL touchdown.Just before halftime Tony Romo Jersey , the Cowboys found themselves at midfield with Allen Hurns lined up as the wide receiver on the right side and Gallup at wide receiver on the left side. Each runs a hitch-and-go.The primary read is Hurns, but he does a poor job of selling the hitch, and Washington cornerback Josh Norman is not fooled. Gallup does a much better job with his route. He turns his shoulders and hips, making his route look just like a hitch. This fools Washington cornerback Greg Stroman into breaking on Gallup’s route. When the pass gets to Gallup, he has a five-yard lead on Stroman and an easy touchdown.Gallup is a tremendous athlete and an excellent route runner. He needs to spend the offseason working with quarterback Dak Prescott to build familiarity and become a bigger part of this offense. Unfortunately, the exact formula for how the league determines comp picks is kept behind some steel vault somewhere (I once visited the Coca-Cola museum and they have a similar vault for their recipe), but it’s easy for experts to take stabs at. It truly is impossible to know but we can have a solid idea.The Cowboys lost some guys like Cole Beasley and Geoff Swaim, and of course brought in players like Randall Cobb and George Iloka. Ultimately they really didn’t swing the pendulum one way or the other, and if you buy Zierlein’s projection then you might as well get used to the number of picks that the Cowboys already have.He projects them not to earn a compensatory pick in 2020. Womp womp.While the good guys aren’t expected to receive any comp picks next offseason, unfortunately their division rivals are.
